After another free hostel breakfast we headed off to the small paris of Versailles. Maryanne's sarcasm is really engaging. The grounds are amazing! There are just gardens upon gardens upon gardens!

We even skipped a 4 1/2 hour wait into the palace because Rick (We were on a first-name basis with Rick Steeves at this point in the trip) gave us the tip to reserve our tour of the chateau ahead of time. (If you find yourself at Versailles, when you are facing the chateau from the outside, the part directly to the right side of you has the place where you can reserve tickets! Go there instead of standing in that awful line in the heat!)
The inside of the palace is also really impressive. It was full of artifacts and replicas that really allowed you to step into history. The opera theater was simply stunning. The hall of mirrors was also beautiful, as the mirrors reflected the gardens we had just spent time in outside. Seeing Versailles really gave us a better picture of how French royalty lived.

Around 7 p.m. we got a train back to the city. We didn't want to wait in line or pay extra, so we went right through the turnstiles and onto the train. Upon our arrival in Paris we ate a a crepe restaurant that was recommended by Rick. The meal was amazing. Not only was the food great, but we also had a family from Washington state sitting next to us and we chatted throughout the entire meal. We both had the same crepe, except one with feta, one without.
And a strawberry and whipped cream crepe for dessert!
We both agree that this was our best dinner on the trip. It helped that we had such great people sitting next to us because we also had great conversation. The waitstaff was also great! Once again, this meal was simply very close to perfect. When dinner ended, we walked to the Eiffel tower. We were going to go up but it was almost dark, there were thousands of people lounging on the grass in front of it, and the tower was so stunning, so we instead sat and took in the beauty.
We even saw our dinner friends once again, and we took pictures for each other. We had been sitting for a little while when the tower began sparkling. It was just gorgeous. People clapped, and then just watched. Once it was done we briskly walked to the metro and made it back to the hostel.
