7/17 - Venice
Around 9 a.m. we arrived in Venice! After some grumpy feelings were sorted out we had a truly lovely day. Venice is gorgeous. We discovered a few pockets of un-touristy sections, and they were lovely to sit in, and we even put our feet in the water! Then we headed off to the touristy spots. Namely, the whole area around San Marco Square. However, big news! We got to ride a gondola! It was all they are cracked up to be! The ride was lovely! We saved a lot of money by going in on a gondola with 4 other people, so it only ended up being 13 euro per person!
Whoops! Forgot to mention that for lunch we had tomato pie (excellent!) and a cookie (also excellent!). Once the gondola ride had finished we explored some more. Then we wanted dinner... but it was 5 p.m. and no one eats at 5 p.m. in Italy so we had to dine at a not so super place but the food was okay.
Then we hopped on a train to Roma! Emily met us at the train station and led the way to her apartment, which happened to be right behind the Vatican! Then it was bed time.
