I'm leaving on a jetplane...

...and I'll be back on July 31st.

My best friend and I are embarking on a journey that will undoubtedly be one of the most adventurous of our lives.  We are taking on Europe as amateur travelers.  Our plan is flexible and our bags are light.  My only hope is that we arrive back in one piece.

I started this blog at the request of my Aunt Lisa, but I think it could prove to be very beneficial for remembering the highlights of our trip.  If I have time (and WiFi) to update on longer train rides, I will certainly do my best.

Now for some background.

Everyone, at one point or another, comes up with some outlandish idea that, deep down, they never think will happen.  That is how this idea started.  The next thing you know, Maryanne and I booked our flight to Ireland.

Because of being so busy (and at times lazy and often irresponsible by misusing free time), we really did not start researching and planning until within the last few weeks.  Therefore, with a malleable itinerary, a few places lined up to stay here and there, a rail pass with a few maps, and some smart phone apps downloaded to our devices (including Scrabble), we are pretty much making it up as we go along.  Some say that's crazy, and to be honest I sometimes think that too...

... but where's the fun in doing it any other way?  ... Right?

To be continued...
